John Albert White was born 10th November 1919 in Bangalow, NSW.

He was the son of Ede Edward White and Hilda May (nee Watts).

As his father was a policeman and was transferred every 2 or 3 years, he grew up in a number of towns.

John attended Fernmount Public School & Bellingen High School before moving to Menindie. There was no high school at Menindie and he spent some time helping teach the younger local children - white and aboriginal.

His father gained a transfer to Braidwood, where John worked as a mechanic.

When war broke out in December 1941, he enlisted in the Army, later transferring to the Airforce.

He was sent to Canada for training under the Empire Training Scheme and then to UK.

On 3rd September 1944 whilst on a training mission in UK, his Halifax bomber crashed into high ground near Trevor, Wales and all the crew were killed.

He was laid to rest with his mates on 8th September 1944 in Blacon Cemetery, Chester, UK.

"We last saw Jack with kit bag shoulder high,

No thoughts of sanctuary from the perils of War.

With a firm voice and brave face he said Good-bye

His duty done - he rests in peace for evermore."
