They were both born in Kent and had emigrated with their families as children.

Catherine arrived in NSW with her parents George & Keziah STEADMAN on board the ship "Sir Edward Paget" on 14th February 1842.

John and Catherine lived at Jamberoo before they moved to Broughton Creek becoming tenants of the Berry Estate.

They were flooded out several times and then moved to Meroo, north of Nowra.

They had 12 children:

5. Clara Jane 1863 - 1927
6. Thomas Gibson 1866 - 1928

9. Kezia Elizabeth 1870 - 1898
10. James Ernest Rufus 1872 - 1978
11. Albert Edward 1875 - 1951
12. Sarah Lillian Ann 1877 - 1959

John died 13th April 1911 at Meroo aged 81.

Catherine died 11th August 1921 at Meroo aged 86.

They are buried together at Cambewarra Cemetery.
