Eugene LYONS and Margaret McMAHON were married in Limerick, Ireland on the 18th October 1855.

Eugene was from Cork, aged 22, Margaret was from Limerick and aged 17.

A daughter, Hannah, was born in Limerick about 1857.

Sometime in 1857, the family arrived in Australia, settling in Melbourne where Eugene worked as a labourer.

They had three more children:

Margaret died on 13th May 1865 in Sandhurst, Victoria after 3 weeks in hospital from "disease of brain". She is buried in Sandhurst Cemetery.

2nd Marriage

On 13th May 1867 at Echuca, Victoria, Eugene married Bridget Kelly, a widow.

At Echuca, Eugene is listed as a boarding-house keeper and a hotel proprietor.

From Echuca, he moved to Hill End, NSW and lived at nearby Warne.

3rd Marriage

On 18th June 1881 at Orange, NSW, Eugene married again, to Frances Ellen Warren, a widow. They lived at Kerrs Creek.

Eugene worked as a ganger (labourer) on the railways. It was in this job that he came to his end. He died 20th April 1897 near Kerrs Creek, as a result of injuries received in a shunting accident 5 days earlier. An inquest was held.

He is buried in Orange Catholic Cemetery as "Hugh" Lyons.

Note that the date on the headstone is actually the date of the accident - 5 days before he died.
