Charles Kelly

Charles was born 29 May 1848 at Coura Creek (also spelt Cowra Creek), Monaro. This is about 20 km north of Cooma.

He was the son of Thomas Kelly and Mary Ann Webb of Cowra Creek.

Little is known about his early life, after his father died, he left Cowra Creek and travelled to Braidwood and Gundagai.

He then joined his mother Mary Anne and half-sister Lucy Glass who had earlier settled in Bathurst.

At age 26 he married Hannah Lyons at the Cathedral of Saints Michael & John, Bathurst on 14 February 1876.

Hannah was the daughter of Eugene Lyons and Margaret McMahon (dec.)

Charles' occupation on the marriage certificate is "groom".

They had 1 child in Bathurst, 2 children in Murrumburrah and 2 children in Young before settling in Cowra where he became a carter and carrier (horse drawn vehicles).

Later he became a bus proprietor.

Charles and Hannah had 7 children:

Hannah died of pneumonia on 22 September 1895 at Cowra.

Charles married Theresa Martin (nee Murphy) in 1896 and had two more children:

Charles died on 3 September 1921 at Cowra.
